The German airline Condor has decided to start scheduled flights to Akureyri and Egilsstaðir in the summer of 2023. From May 2023, Condor will be offering one overnight flight per week from Frankfurt (ICAO: EDDF) to Akureyri (ICAO: BIAR) and Egilsstaðir (ICAO: BIEG). This is the first time that the airline Condor flies to Iceland. All flights will be performed on Airbus A320 and A321, Condor’s press-office said, answering Flugblogg’s questions.

Ralf Teckentrup, CEO of Condor: “Iceland is one of the most popular destinations in the north. We are looking forward to offering our guests the opportunity to discover this diverse destination with its beautiful nature. With the connections to Akureyri and Egilsstaðir, we are also responding to the great demand from numerous tour operators offering round trips in the north and east of Iceland.”

“We are extremely happy that German airline Condor has chosen Akureyri and Egilsstaðir as its destinations here in Iceland,” says Sigrún Björk Jakobsdóttir, CEO of Isavia Regional Airports. “Condor´s decision is the result of the powerful promotional work we and our collaborators have done to emphasize the development of more gateways into Iceland. The work we have done is bearing fruit and we welcome Condor to the North and East of Iceland with open arms.”

“Akureyri and Egilsstaðir have excellent airports ready to receive Condor flights next year,” says Sigríður Dögg Guðmundsdóttir, Head of Visit Iceland. „These new flights give our visitors the possibility to explore Iceland further by landing directly in the north or the east of Iceland. Both regions offer breathtaking landscapes and have a great tourism infrastructure in place, with a wide choice of hotels and outdoor activities and facilities.“
