Norlandair has signed an agreement with the Greenland government on flights from Iceland to Scoresbysund twice a week. Flights will be from both Akureyri and Reykjavík. The contract is for 6 years and can be extended for four years, RÚV reported.
For decades, Norlandair has flown between Akureyri and Greenland, serving residents on the east coast. The company has also flown to international research institutes and foreign countries, including the Danish military.
Flights from Akureyri and Reykjavík
Norlandair has maintained a schedule twice a week in recent years from Akureyri. Flights from Reykjavík are now being added, in addition to which the agreement opens for flights between locations in Greenland, according to an announcement from the company.
“The co-operation between Norlandair and the local government has deep roots and has always been successful,” says CEO of Norlandair Friðrik Adolfsson. “We will handle this flight with the DHC-6 Twin Otter and B200 King Air, as well as the DASH-8 aircraft to be implemented. The breadth of the aircraft fleet and the specialized training of pilots enable us to fly in very demanding conditions and serve this hard-to-reach area safely “.
