Icelandair dismisses half of the pilots at January 1 and expects to have 30% less for summer 2021

The dismissals of sixty-eight Icelandair pilots will take effect from the beginning of the year 2021. This was stated at an information meeting that Icelandair held with the pilots 15.December, Turisti reports. Thus, there will be only 71 pilots in the airline after 1 January 2021.

In comparison, 562 pilots worked for Icelandair in the summer of 2019, but the summer of 2021 the airline expects the supply to be 25% to 30% less than last year. If the airline follows the plan, it is clear that the company needs to rehire a large group of pilots soon.

With only 71 pilots at work, Icelandair manages to have from two to five passengers planes, as stated chairman of the Icelandic Commercial Pilots’ Association Jón Þór Þorvaldsson at the end of last week. This does not include the pilots who fly Icelandair’s cargo planes.
