Snowstomrs significantly decreased the number of flights in Keflavik in January

Snowstorms, which have arrived in Iceland almost every other day from 6 to 27 January, significantly decreased the number of flights, which were served in Keflavik. The average number of departures per day in January 2020 was 39 scheduled flights, however, in January 2019 this number was 58, according to the statistic from Turisti.is.

The largest part of this contraction is written on WOW air last year, which accounted for just over a quarter of each departure. The bad weather a few days in January meant that a large number of trips had to be cancelled and overall traffic at Keflavik Airport decreased by about a third this first month of the year. Icelandair’s share in the number of travellers has again reached the heights it was before WOW air’s activities became as high as can be seen in the bar chart below.
