Icelandair has cancelled 22 flights due to hurricane on Valentine’s day, 15 flights were rescheduled

Icelandic national carrier Icelandair has cancelled 22 flights to and from Keflavik (ICAO: BIKF) tomorrow, 14 of February. In addition, 15 flights were rescheduled to later times. Most of the disrupted flights are on European destinations.

The reason for that is the hurricane, which arrival is expected on Friday’s morning. According to Keflavik’s TAF, in the period from 00:00Z to 02:00Z becoming changes will come with wind 42 knots (77 km/h) with gusts 55 knots (101 km/h). In addition, in the period from 00:00Z to 18:00Z there will be expected visibility 500 meters with snow and rain and overcast ceiling 1000 feet. The situation will become worst after 03:00Z when the wind will gradually increase to 52 knots (96 km/h) with gusts 70 knots (129 km/h), with temporal changes after 06:00Z when the wind will be up to 62 knots (114 km/h) with gusts 80 knots (148 km/h).

A major disruption of flights in Keflavik is expected tomorrow, communications officer at Isavia Guðjón Helgason told Flugblogg. “Many international flights in Keflavik and all domestic flights in Reykjavik capital airport will be affected by the wind tomorrow. The final decision about cancelling flights is always made by airlines, of course. We ask all passengers to follow the changes in the schedule via the Keflavik airport online flight schedule, which is updated by airlines in real time”, said Guðjón Helgason.

This evening, 13 of February, the whole Icelandair’s fleet will fly to North America with evening flights, where will be stored until tomorrow’s afternoon, Flugblogg’s source in Keflavik airport said. According to Icelandair’s official information, all evening departures from the US on 13 of February were rescheduled on the morning of 14 of February with arrival to Keflavik after 15:00Z.

That is why the airline has to cancel all European flights, departing from Keflavik on the first half of the day. So far the affected Icelandair’s flights are FI532/533 to & from Munich, FI520/521 to&from Frankfurt, FI342/343 to & from Helsinki, FI306/307 to & from Stockholm, FI500/501 to&from Amsterdam, FI528/529 to & from Berlin, FI204/205 to & from Copenhagen, FI416/417 to&from Dublin, FI544/545 to & from Paris, FI318/319 to & from Oslo, FI430/431 to & from Glasgow.

Also, delays are expected for evening’s flights on Friday’s evening. Icelandair’s flights will be performed as follows:

FI470 will depart from Keflavik at 16:00 and will arrive at Gatwick, London at 20:10,

FI471 will depart from Gatwick, London at 21:10 and will arrive at Keflavik 23:30,

FI450 will depart from Keflavik 16:00 and will arrive at Heathrow, London at 19:10,

FI451 will depart from Heathrow, London at 20:10 and will arrive at Keflavik at 23:25,

FI440 will depart from Keflavik at 16:00 and will arrive at Manchester at 19:40,

FI441 will depart from Manchester at 20:40 and will arrive at Keflavik at 21:30,

FI542 will depart from Keflavik at 16:00 and will arrive at Charles de Gaule, Paris at 20:35,

FI543 will depart from Charles de Gaule, Paris at 21:35 and will arrive at Keflavik at 00:00.
