“Don’t know how to pay for the rent”. Icelandair Group suddenly cancelled training for summer jobs

“I was going to be hired by the company for the summer but that’s not gonna happen”, wrote Flugblogg’s reader, who asked not to mention his name. He was going to be a part of Icelandair Ground Services crew during summer 2020. As it was before, the company hires more people for the high season, however the process was disrupted this year.

“At first they said that training is going to be postponed until 20 April, but after 4 days another email saying they can’t offer the job. People who are on training right now have got yesterday email that they going to finish it, but the first day at work will be only 16th or 17th April,”  Flugblogg’s source told.

Therefore, even the hired crew was left without full 1-month payment for the next 2 months.

“How they gonna pay for rooms for 80.000 ISK? They thought they will be at work. And Icelandair doesn’t provide this season accommodation”, the worker asked.

Previously, Icelandair asked its employees to take an unpaid vacation for one or two months. Responding to the slow of air travel, the airline decreased its capacity by 30% and expects 25% decrease for summer 2020.
