Icelandair pilots performed a tail strike during the take off from runway 19 at Keflavik airport (ICAO: BIKF) on Boeing 737 MAX 9 with registration TF-ICB. The incident reported by Avherald.com with reference to several sources. Among them is the passenger, who published the video of the departure on YouTube with name Jackson Jokerst. In the video a loud “bang!” sound can be heard during the rotation phase. The wind during the take off was 220 degrees 25-28 knots without gusts.

According to Avherald.com, the incident happened on 22 February 2022 during the flight ICE681 to Seattle (ICAO: KSEA). The plane performed several step climbs to flight levels to FL320, FL340 and FL360. After 7,5 hours it performed normal landing in Seattle.

However, after the landing a maintenance for the tail skid was required. The plane returned back to service after 22,5 hours on ground.

Icelandair press-office was not available for the comments at the moment of publishing.
