Akureyri airport has got its first ATIS

Isavia press-release

ATIS (Automatic Terminal Information Service) or airport radio will be launched at Akureyri Airport (BIAR). The aim is to increase the quality of the service and safety of flights through the airport, says Icelandic national airport operator Isavia. ATIS systems are already in use at Keflavík and Reykjavík airports.

Aircraft passing through Akureyri Airport can get information about the weather, airport condition and more by listening to ATIS on the frequency 136.200 MHz or calling 424 4039 instead of getting the information on the frequency of the tower.

“It further increases flight safety at Akureyri Airport,” says Managing Director of Isavia Domestic Airports Sigrún Björk Jakobsdóttir. “This change reduces the load on the tower frequency. Air traffic controllers can then focus even more on other services, such as using the separation of aircraft when they are entering or taking off from the airport. “
